With the exhibition THE PERFECTLY SUPERFLUOUS ART OF COLLECTING. LA SOCIETà DEL SENTIMENTO, the CACT is showcasing works from private collections, reiterating the need to involve collectors and collections in the activities of every museum institution, whether public or private. This approach is especially apt with regard to the latest trends in contemporary art.
This is the purpose behind the establishment of the MACT Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Ticino (Museum of Contemporary Art in Canton Ticino), whose declared aim is to encourage relationships of this kind and, as a result, highlight the existence of a ferment, albeit one that is still too latent, at our latitudes. In this first phase, the MACT is a concept for an institute that has no collection of its own, but is committed to bring about the organisation of thematic exhibitions with the contribution of collectors. This is the first significant step towards the creation of a museum for contemporary art whose organisational model is indicative of the fact that it does not intend to miss out on the great curatorial opportunities arising in parallel with the historical reinterpretation of art.
