Tablecloth (1904)

Tablecloth with sword motif. Designed around 1904, four-fold artist’s monogram (inner corners of the border), likely produced by Oberhessische Leinenindustrie Marx und Kleinberger of Frankfurt. White linen damask with a woven geometric design. The border features a motif of alternating narrow lanceolate leaves and a closely repeated Roman sword with scabbard. The corner solution is a narrow, diagonally positioned rectangle with a partial cutout of the sword and lateral rays. At the center is a dense network of large circles, each filled with a square formed by circular discs. Each diamond-shaped space is filled with another circular disc. The owner’s monogram AB is embroidered in one corner. Good condition commensurate with its age. 136 x 163 cm.

Private collection, Switzerland.
